FINALLY March Madness fun has officially begun. Sorry First Four, you’re an appetizer, but the main course started with Princeton and Notre Dame. Can we get a drum roll?!
Mike Brey’s team led consistently throughout, but the Tigers gave them all they can handle. 60 to 58 was the final score and Notre Dame awaits the winner of West Virginia and Bucknell.
Spencer Weisz led the charge for the underdogs with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. A true Swiss army knife performance as Jon Rothstein would say! Ivy League faithful everywhere were losing it when they cut it to three with five minutes to go!
It was a grind it out type of win for Notre Dame, and they played like a team with ample experience winning in March. Upperclassman Bonzie Colson, Matt Farrell, and Steve Vasturia led the Irish with 18, 16, and 10 respectively. Still though the Tigers hung in there until the final horn sounded. They had this look to tie it up on their last possession:
Notre Dame is a team that plans on doing damage in this tournament. Wins like the one today are what you need to do it. Not always pretty, but efficiently being able to survive and advance. That’s the name of the game.
